Rob Clarke Awards

The Rob Clarke Awards recognise the research work carried out by Undergraduate Members and non-Members of The Society. Prizes, named in honour of the late Dr Rob Clarke, are awarded independently for the best abstracts and posters presented at The Society's main meeting, which in 2018 will be Europhysiology 2018.

To be considered for the Awards, entrants must submit an abstract of their undergraduate project to The Society. Following assessment by a review panel, the entrants with the best abstracts will be selected for the Rob Clarke Abstract Award and invited to present their undergraduate research project as a poster at Europhysiology 2018.

Each finalist will receive the following:

  • A certificate of award
  • Support of up to £200 to attend and present their work at the conference

During the meeting, a panel of judges will review the posters presented by the Abstract Award winners and present the best project(s) with the Rob Clarke Presentation Award.

Applications for the 2018 round are now closed.

Terms and Conditions

  • Work must have been carried out as an undergraduate. Research undertaken after graduation would not be eligible.
  • Recent (first year) postgraduates can also submit an abstract, but their research must have been completed as an undergraduate and their higher status will be taken into account in the judging process.
  • All types of project will be considered (including science communication, undergraduate ambassador and library projects), as long as they are hypothesis-driven and show data collection and analytical skills.
  • The supervisor must approve the abstract being submitted for presentation.
  • The abstract must have been written by the student (it is acknowledged that abstracts may not include the final results and conclusions of a project).
  • Projects completed jointly by more than one undergraduate are eligible but each student must write and submit their own individual abstract for the Awards.
  • The abstract must be in the same format as other abstracts for Europhysiology 2018.
  • If the student is successful and receives a travel grant award to support their attendance at Europhysiology 2018, they must return any funds they have received if they do not attend the meeting.
  • The poster must follow the same guidelines as other posters for Europhysiology 2018.
